Does steam need my credit card info even if I have a gift card?

I'd rather not use my credit cards to buy anything if I don't have to. I was hoping that I could just buy a gift card for Steam at a store and it will work fine. Is that the case?As you can tell I've never made a steam purchase before. via /r/Steam http://ift.tt/2scEAGF
