Trouble with NBT tags

Hey all, I've recently discovered the wonder world of command blocks. After watching some Jragon14 tutorials on how to give thrown items abilities, I decided I wanted to implement something similar for an SMP world I'm working on. In order to allow people to still be able to drop those items without triggering the effects, I'm creating an altar where players can receive items that have an NBT tag. I then want to follow the steps in his tutorial here to tag only the items I've tagged as spell ingredients. I've gotten the parts covered in his tutorial to work fine, but whenever I try to specify only items with a certain NBT tag, it says that it can't find the name/value separator for that string, despite me following what I believe to be the format on the wiki. What's worse, I'm finding myself unable to /give a player an item with the NBT tag I want (again, following the tutorials on NBT tags on the wiki), with it always saying that the data tag failed to parse. I'm feeling a little bit over my head, and am wondering what advice the people of this sub might have to give. via /r/MinecraftCommands http://ift.tt/2sk9hGE
