Safe to install new pads on car?

Back story....Bought a 96 accord for 800 a year and a half ago. Haven't done anything to it other than gas. Bought it as a temp car. Treated it as such.So as time has gone on, little things have presented themselves. Axles clicking, berrings squeak here and there, etc. When I got it, I was told the rotors were warped. They only pulsate on heavy breaking, and since I drive it carefully, I don't have many of those.Knowing what is needed, I've priced the parts out. And as long as it's all apart. Might as well go to town. But then I'm sinking 800 in parts in a worn 800 car. So I started looking for a replacement. Found a 97 with 50k fewer miles with a lot of work having been done on it. He wants a grand. I figure I'll pick that up, sell mine for whatever, and be right back where I was.The other day, the front left brake started to grind. I'm not stupid, car has to stop, so I'm not driving it.But the guy with the other accord isn't near me, and works third shift. I was going to meet him today, but he wasn't able to meet. I don't have access to a ride tomorrow, and I need a car.So....In theory I can get pads, slap them on, and stop again. I need to get to work, and I can't wait for our schedules top intertwine so I can see this other car. What do you think? Temporary solution, or should I look for a different car?Tl:dr have a crappy old car that runs like a tank, but has grindy brakes. Because of all the other work needed, it's not worth fixing, but need a car until I can meet this other dude. Would new pads stop the car as long as I don't try to drive it like I stole it?Thanks via /r/MechanicAdvice http://ift.tt/2siG3eD
