Started playing a Lawful Evil Rogue...and had a party member steal from me.

So I just started playing my new character, a Kobold Rogue part of a twin act with another player. My character is Lawful Evil and is a Kobold, so obviously stealing is afoot, however I am aware that stealing from the party is a dick move and that you should always work with the party and not be a dick for the hell of it.As part of the party hook, my character is wearing the crown jewels of a city that one of the other players is the heir to (Big heist, nicked it from the city and fled to where the party is now).We were rping in character and enjoying the party interactions when this Princess character (another PC) casts Slow on me and the twin, then takes the jewels from us claiming they are rightfully hers, and uses some magic to keep them safe in another plane. What followed was a decent chunk of in character bickering and bartering, explaining that we had 'Earned' those jewels, and she had no proof they were hers.Eventually I decided to drop the issue as the other player was not giving way at all, and the situation was veering dangerously close to inter-party fighting or petty theft - not something I want to do to my fellow players even despite playing an evil character.I've spoken with the DM about the issue who just wants a cohesive party, so I've dropped it for now but the player still maintains he's in the right.Needless to say, this is a tad frustrating. What are your thoughts on the situation? Did the player playing the Princess have every right to steal from a brand new party member and strain character relations because it was plot relevant to her? Am I in the wrong for being frustrated? Let me know your thoughts!TLDR; Started playing a Lawful Evil Kobold Rogue, party member steals plot relevant item from me almost immediately, I am frustrated. via /r/DnD http://ift.tt/2sVMqBE
