Question about getting a cockatoo while working full time?

Howdy friends! So I've been researching cockatoo's for quite a while and have read tons about them. The next step in my cockatoo adventure is to actually meet some and get to know the birds physically in person rather than just text. I will be moving in less than three months to Virginia permanently (moving in with long-distance bf finally!) and that will be where I began really settling in, creating my life.My future life ideally includes a cockatoo. I would love to adopt a cockatoo in need of a home for rescue. I will ensure I'm ready after working with cockatoo's physically but I will let you all know this would be my first time owning a bird but with the research I've done and the plans to meet cockatoo's in person I do believe I am pretty damn near ready.I plan to get a full-time job when I move in- 8-9 hours a day for 5 days a week. Would this be too much time away from a cockatoo? I understand these larger parrots need much more time and while I am home 98% of my home time would be committed to spending time with my potential feathered friend. Ideally, as soon as I get home and settle in my home clothes I will bring out the friend and give him or her the rest of the night until bed or until 1-2 hours before bed to settle down.I am not interested in smaller parrots or birds because they do not appeal to me fully at the moment. I have met a few small birds/parrots (cockatiels, sun conures, and a few smaller amazons). I'm unsure why they don't appeal to me really. But what do you all think? I want to make sure I do not be neglectful and having a full time job is neglectful to them. Is it? Does anyone else have a cockatoo and a full time job? via /r/parrots http://ift.tt/2tT1vah
